December 30, 2011

Wanna know a secret? I LOVE Christmas. Everything about it. I love that people are happy. How everyone smiles a little more, loves a little harder, and is thinking about others. I love the traditions. And the parties. I love the excuse to get dressed up. I love the glitz and the glitter. I love the JOY. And excitement. I love the Christmas carols. And the time spent with family. I love that it’s one big month of celebrating the Savior of the world. How cool is that?! I love the busy. Rushing around to finish your shopping, jamming your calendar, decorating the house. And yet, I also love the slow. Sitting by a blazing fire with a good book, watching snow fall out the window, singing Christmas hymns in church. I love it. Because all that, right there? THAT is the magic of Christmas. And no matter how old I get, or what’s going on in my life, there will ALWAYS be magic.

Something gets me about this month. December is the twelfth and last chapter in a really good book, it’s the encore to a concert, and dessert after an incredible meal. It’s a time to think and reflect of the year that will soon be concluded, and a time to plan for the year to come.

In the past, I’ve labeled New Years Resolutions as kind of corny. Solely because of the fact that they never seemed to happen. It seemed to me as though someone was saying to the world, “Watch me fail.”

Guess what? I was wrong. Resolutions can be good. A resolution is a position arrived at after deep consideration, and a firm or unwavering adherence to one’s purpose. I like that.

This list I’m about to share is not meant as a threat to myself. If I come back to this post around this time next year and only feel as though I truly accomplished one thing, I will be totally pleased.
