They first met at the cafeteria lunch table during their junior year of high school and ironically, found themselves in most every math class together from that point on. They quickly grew to be great friends and math partners and Kayla still jokes that she got the better end of that deal since math is definitely Patrick’s strength. By the late spring of their senior year, she could feel their friendship begin to shift and took notice of the extra care Patrick showed towards her each day. Though there always seemed to be a little something special about the way they treated each other, nothing ever came of it and after graduation they’d head off into their bright futures at separate colleges.
Fast forward almost two years when they got back in touch with one another despite their distance, and began to talk more and more frequently. Upon returning home from college the following summer, they finally made things official and from the start of their relationship, it instantly felt as if it were simply meant to be all along.
From traveling all over the east coast to be Patrick’s number one fan at his college baseball games, to the night Patrick told Kayla he loved her as they stargazed from the back of his truck, to all the adventures and fun-filled days in between, these two have built countless memories in the almost five years they’ve been together all while building a relationship that’s strong, tender, and true.
However, there was one memory yet to unfold that would prove to be one of their all-time favorites… the night Patrick asked Kayla to marry him. As she arrived at his house one day, she found a sticky note outside the door that said “Kayla, meet me by the Christmas tree =).” When she walked in, she found Patrick standing there with candles surrounding him and that smile she fell in love with so many years before spread across his face. He took her hand, told her how much she meant to him, then got down on one knee, revealing the sparkliest ring she’d ever seen, and asking Kayla to be his wife. And of course, she said yes in a heartbeat!
Patrick & Kayla, your joy is contagious and your love for each other was so sweet to spend the evening documenting! I just adore you guys and can’t wait for your September 4th Heritage Hills wedding! Until then, enjoy my favorites from your engagement session! Xo
